A Day In the Life of a Farmer . . .
We took our first day off since April last week, and we didn’t know what to do with ourselves. There are so many things to be done at this time of year. Between the growing, weeding, watering, and marketing, there are literally things we could be doing twenty four hours a day.
Just Ripe!
Summertime has finally arrived. The weeds are tall (but slowly getting knocked down). the squash plants are going crazy, and most exciting, we found our first ripe tomato of the season!
Invasion of the Potato Snatchers
I’m sitting here writing this newsletter with wishful hopes that it is going to rain today. See the weather man says there is a 40% chance of rain today, a thirty percent chance tomorrow, and similar chances for Thursday and Friday.
Farming, An Education Unlike Anything Else
Being the type of farmers that we are (namely young) we are learning new techniques, methods, and schools of thought every day. The more we hear and learn and about permaculture, the more we realize that we are actually utilizing many theories of the practice. Pigpen The Ramp Hunter
Living up to the hype is one thing but actually exceeding it is another. Especially so on a cold, rainy, and windy Saturday somewhere in the Cherokee National Forest.
Final Countdown!
We didn’t think it could get much busier than last week, but then this week arrived along with all of the preparation that goes with the beginning of the market season. Not only have we been tilling, planting, weeding, and watering, but we’ve also been working hard on our plans for this year’s farmer’s markets.
Tillin’ Until The Cows Come Home
And we don’t have any cows, so its going to be a long week! So far this week (and last week) have been some of the busiest of the year! We’ve been busy doing everything from planting and weeding to cleaning and watering.
The Eye of the Storm….Sort of.
After several incredibly busy weeks of preparing, tilling, planning, and planting, we’re momentarily not insanely busy. We have heard this period of time compared to the eye of a tornado.
